Where did Summer Go? Part 2......

oops...I found more pictures of our summer.
This is our first snake of the season. See how well it is hidden? I was wearing flip flops and walking out near the garden with Wilfred. I stepped on the stupid thing, when it twitched I jumped like 10 feet. I was screaming about a snake when Wilfred informed me that it wasn't just a snake, but a RATTLESNAKE! I nearly sprouted wings on my way to get a shovel. (and a camera)

It is only a itty-bitty one but those are the worst. It attacked the shovel and spit it's venom everywhere. I do believe the only thing that saved me was that it had just rained and it was cold, so that made the snake slow to react. Our snake count this summer has been 13 on our 2 acres. All but 2 of them Bullsnakes. I have run over 2 LARGE rattlesnakes on the road right by our house, but they were not on our property.
In June my Mom and Dad took the kids and me for a Day Out With Thomas. Durango was beautiful as usual and the kids and I had a blast. Wilfred opted to stay home and take care of things.

IT'S THOMAS!

Sir Topham Hat

This is a bull snake that scared 10 years off my life when taking the trash out to the dumpster one morning. 6:30 am and I am screaming and dancing around at the top of my lungs, "Wilfred SNAKE come kill it!" He didn't hear me but all the neighbors did!

A beautiful full rainbow after a evening rain shower.

I'm at York, NE for convention, and just was visiting with Wilfred's cousin Anna. Had to come check your blog after that, and found you'd just posted some updates on your doings! Enjoyed reading of your summer experiences, birthday parties, etc. Got a laugh out of your snake experiences! I've seen several snakes this summer also, mostly while out horseback riding at the home of some of our friends in northeast TX. Just had to say hi and thx for the updates! :-)

Oh...shuddering about the snakes! You were quite lucky w/the rattler, I'm not sure I would have survived to tell about it later. EWWW!

Haven't had much time to do blog reading lately, but you're still on my list!
